Day 244: Changing of the Seasons

Joining along with this week's Sunday Social (see the link below). But substituting some 'Spring' answers in, as it will be a while again until that most spendiferous of seasons, Autumn, comes around again for me.

Q: What is your favorite Fall/Spring activity?

A: I love Spring rain. It's rain you don't mind being in (as long as it is rain and not drizzle). So walking in the rain, watching clouds do their thing—sometimes quietly, sometimes in a rush—and then coming home for nice coffee and treats would be one of my favourite Spring things. I don't do it very often unless there is a purpose to my walking though. I should change that. For Autumn it's a bit the same. Rain, clouds, change. I'm not a big mixer, like to do my own thing, so community activities for the Fall and Spring don't really register. I'll tell myself I should check it out, but I know I won't.

Q: Do you follow a football team? If so, which one and why?

A: I follow three. We're talking Australian Rules here. I have three teams 'I quite like', and sometimes I will even go so far as to roll a dice to see who I will support in any given year. The three are the Geelong Cats, the Western Bulldogs and the St Kilda Saints. But if I had to dig down deep for a true allegiance, it would be the Doggies and the Saints. A little deeper: the Saints. You can, however, judge my fanaticism by the number of games I have seen this year: One.

Q: What is something fun about Fall Spring in your area?

A: The major Spring events in Melbourne are Fashion, Royal Shows, Fringe Festivals and Racing. Spring Fashion Week (you'd think I would have been all over that, but I don't think I can really be seen in public the way I am seen here in private(?)) has been and gone. You can see endless numbers of photos of it here at their Facebook page. The outfits segue straight into the Racing Carnival which runs all through September, October and passing the day when a whole State gets a day off for a horse race, heads off into November too. But more my style would be things like the first ever Toms Pop-up shop in Melbourne from the 2nd September to the 8th of October (will have to pop-down to the pop-up I think), and the Churros Eating Competition at Queen Victoria Market on the 15th September. Those are both more my style—shoes and things you can dip in chocolate.

Q: What are your favorite Fall/Spring staple outfits?

A: Not so much outfits as essential elements, Autumn and Spring are the times for two of the best clothing items: gumboots and cardigans. I am not a jumper kinds girl, much prefer a button-up cardi. In Winter they get lost under coats and in summer I eventually have to succumb to removing them so Spring and Autumn are perfect for showing off all the cardi can offer. I only have one pair of gumboots, but when I get that big house with a whole room which is effectively a wardrobe, that will change.

Q: What things are you looking forward to most about this coming Fall Spring season?

A: The one good thing about the transition from Winter is that the European shoes I have obtained over that season start to become wearable in this. I have some insane platform shoes that need to be taken for some summer promenades, as well as my Jelly Beans which can't always be worn with socks (although I do love them that way). Also, I don't want to wish time away, but Spring does bring me closer to my holiday in Novemeber. And with that, thrift shopping until my ears fall off! Stay calm, stay calm. Remember you don't have any room for any more clothes theoretically. Dear Reason, you don't have a chance on this one, lots of love, Impulse. Xxx

Q: What is your favorite Fall Spring holiday? Tradition?

A: Working in a twenty-four hour, seven-days-week industry makes ordinary days meaningless. I don't even know what day it is. So holidays are lost in the middle of all that and only noticable when you get some extra cash in the pay-check for penalty rates. I do like that Victoria stops working for a day, the first Tuesday in November, for a horse race—Melbourne Cup Day. It says a lot about who we are as a city. Sports mad and eager for a day off! It is really our only holiday at this time of the year until we get to the summer ones: Christmas and New Years and Australia Day and Anzac Day. We have to make the most of it and usually take Monday off too if we can.

  1. I really love this look. The red gloves and shoes with all the houndstooth and black and white really pops.

Where are you travelling to again in the US? You must have all your thrift shops already picked out and I assume you will be travelling with empty suitcases.

    1. We're going to LA and Vegas for a short time and then exploring through Utah, New Mexico and Arizona. I really should do some research. I will have empty suitcases and I am hoping while I am shopping the boy can do some sending of parcels, slow mail, back to home. I am so excited!!!

Day 279: Entertainment and Wishes

I have brain-freeze from a three hours/three hours/ten hours-during-the-day sleeping pattern over the last three days twenty-four hour periods (that ole chestnut, again) and so even though it is not Sunday, I am getting in early and loosening the clenched up brain cells by cheating on topic ideas with Sunday Social. Their link actually goes up tommorrow so be sure to check back and see what everyone else had to say when Sunday eventually does roll around.

Q: What is currently on your wish list?

A: I need nothing. Nothing. So let's talk about want. I want to be able to find some amazing thrifted pieces on my upcoming (eight sleeps) trip to the States. Luck and fate will have a lot to do with it, but I would be very happy to find some, or all, of the following as well: a chambray shirt, a real bomber jacket (just got one that I had different ideas about when I bought it from SheInside—it's really just a fleece jacket), belts, a vintage leather jacket, more tutus, sumptuous f…

Wear 1: Dropped My Shopping.

Day One of three hundred and sixty-five pictures of Irene (left) and I (right) on the internet. We're using it as a way to develop or realise a fashion style, and as a friendly competition as to who wore it better? Like every journey or quest, this year's project will teach me a little, make me think a bit and lend me some laughs and enjoyment. I hope also to slowly make sure everything in my clothes closet and my shoe closet is utilised: even perhaps the bags and boxes of outrageous, or not, op-shopped (thrifted) items secreted in cupboards and under beds. Other hopes: fewer words (believe it or not), more pictures and time to catch up on unfinished blogs from the last three years!

I had my outfit planned, but as I dressed this morning for work, I, well, chickened out. I lost the cape and replaced it with a black cardigan. I thought my work colleagues would think I looked strange and slightly overdressed. Lesson One: I am not brave in person (posting a silly picture on the in…

Day 348: My Favourite Colour

Who: Melanie at Bag and Beret

What: The Travelling Yellow Skirt Freak Show

When: A while ago (have I told you trying to buy a house keeps getting in my way!)

Where: At, around and in the vicinity of ACCA

Why: Do you even have to ask?

Who Else: B—— for the photos, Melbourne Bike Share for the props (although I did pay for that, and we spent so long riding around getting moving pictures that they charged me again so I am not really sure why I am telling you about them: this isn't a plug, except that they are quite cool!)

What the ?: Sunshine incarnate in the form of a yellow skirt travels the world searching for women, bold and beautiful, who make it their own for a day, or a week and share their own take on its joyous light with everyone out there who thinks that being an exceptional individual with the daring and bravado to walk your own way, strut your own stuff and be your own you is a good thing! That's my take on it, but you can read the full story on the link to the skir…
