Day 221: Now You Don't

If you don't watch it, then the following will be boring. If you do, then it will be trite. So, with that great introduction, here is my weekly run-down on last week's So You Think You Can Dance. Two semi-scandalous things happened—where scandalous is Cat Deeley having an affair with the shortest dancer, and not scandalous is Nigel thinking he is having an affair with anyone, and semi-scandalous is somewhere inbetween. Firstly they changed the voting-off procedure after one week. I am guessing they got a strongly worded email or two. So now they advise six people that they may be gone by the end of the day and then they have to dance anyway. That seems three times worse than the first option, but they sweetened it by saying that the evening's performance would influence the final decision so no-one could dance with apathy. And then we found out that Jade had withdrawn due to injury. A shame. But my favourite of the night was Jenna and Tucker's Hip Jazz routine. You can see it here. I am not (just to be scandalous again) a fan of Michael Jackson, but I downloaded that song after I saw the dance. It made that dance extraordinary.

I took my sis to Gold Class, and V—— fed her. It was her first time. It's fun to see someone so excited about the experience. We're a little jaded by exposure after making the rule that it's Gold Class or nothing. We saw Now You See Me. I hadn't read any reviews and the decision was based on the preview. It looked like it had potential in spades. So I was really disappointed when I found myself more interested in my mid-movie food than my actual movie. Not to say that there weren't amazing parts, and that the magic and spectacle wasn't, well spectacular. But. Before I go on, this may spoil it if you continue to read so stop here if you dont want to know any more. Okay to keep going? Alright. There were a few basic issues. Motivation. Resolution. Co-star. Why did the Four Horseman do it for no gain? It needed a modicum more clarity in the Eye and why it was enough motivation for them to do what they did. The ending was classic Deus ex Machina. For the easy Wikipedia explanation for those unaware, that is where the resolution of plot problems are suddenly explained 'with the contrived and unexpected intervention of some new event, character, ability, or object'. Bang, bang, bang they ply you with answers, stitch up the plot and leave you feeling mortifiedly disappointed. And the female interpol agent/co-star was limpid, vacuous and a pure love-interest where one was not required. She was a shameful female character. Whoo! Harsh much? Saying that, I mostly did enjoy it. It was visually pleasing and had a few laughs. If I didn't think its visual impact translates well on the big screen though, I would say wait for the little.

  1. You're a whoot! I hate it when women are just used as objects in movies but do nothing to advance anything at all. Such a waste.
