Day 123: Three-One-Seven

We're officially about a third of the way through the year. Eek. I have a confession to make. I am starting to get angsty about clothing. This is the exact opposite effect to what I was hoping to have. I wanted to become confident about what I wore; I wanted to reach into the far corners of my wardrobe and wear things I had bought because I loved them, but never wore because it's too easy to keep wearing the same thing over and over. Like this. And in a way I have done both of those things, but now I have set myself up with expectations of grandeur for every day, with expectations of novelty, and I get anxious when I can't pull it off day after day. Now I cant wear 'ordinary'. Now I cant wear 'same'. Now I worry about how I look. Now I spend hours trying to put an outfit together. Disaster!

I am not sure how I can get out of this whirlpool. The only solution I can rationally come up with is to start eating lots of carbs and sweets and cakes and biscuits again. Okay, maybe not 'rationally'. They do say coming off carbs and sugars is tantamount to coming off heroin. I am convinced the rehab is partly responsible for the mood swings which are partly responsible for the indecision and angst. So in a way the solution does have merits. Alternatively, continuing the detox (with prayers, benedictions, invocations and entreaties for a quick(er) return to normal hormonal levels), will mean a huge opening up of clothing options—all those boxes of op-shopped/thrifted items waiting for my slimmer build. And all those clothes are new and exiting and, frankly, quite silly. Ultimately I have to just keep going down the three-one-seven route. Explanation: I see that number everywhere. I look at clocks when they say three-one-seven, I decide to see what page I am up to in a book and it is three-one-seven, I sit down to do a refresher course at work and the Melways page on the screen is three-one-seven. Numerically speaking, three-one-seven means, apparently, that you are on the right track. You might not like it, but it will be right for all the right reasons in the end. Three-one-seven

  1. Each time I read one of your blog entries it's like a chapter in a novel. It doesn't always seem like the same novel, LOL but it always leaves me wanting more ; )

  2. I like Suzanne's comment! And your determination - just got to see it through. I know what you mean about feeling like each outfit has to be special, and I don't even post every day.

  3. Perhaps a few moments of meditation each day might be more effective than the carbs. Not that I can talk being a caffeine addict that I am.
