Day 197: Roast Saddle of Lamb with Herbs

Literary Junkies are having their monthly book club Twitter meeting this week again. As usual, with the best intentions, I have the book, but haven't finished it, and in a haze of brain-squishiness I deleted the amazing comment Taylor left about how to participate in a twit party, and haven't had the chance (or courage) to work it out myself. Every month they also do this questionnaire about books. And you know me. Any reason to talk about books or be encouraged to buy more!

Q: What are you currently reading? Tell us about it.
A: I had a major spending spree recently and added thirteen books to the reading pile, but the pile now has active and inactive sections and those all ended up on the latter. The books are in this post. I added only a couple of books to the active pile this month: James Joyce's The Dubliners (Oh my lord! Not about Joyce, because he will be hard but I've done Ulysses three times for a university course on that one book, but for the fact that I discovered Goodreads has thousands, yes thousands, of free e-books. I am doomed), And, Neil Gaiman's American Gods. Although they are added to the active reading pile in the last month, it was recently and so they have not yet circled round for an actual read at this stage and so I cannot tell you a thing about them. It will come.

Q: What book first made you fall in love with reading?
A: I can't remember not reading. I don't know where it started. I remember reading to my dad one night when I was really young and getting all the b's and d's mixed up. He was cross so it wasn't pleasant. But it certainly didn't stop me wanting to read. That was the Owl and the Pussycat.

Q: Summer is a great time for series'. What are your series recommendations?
A: I'm re-reading the Millenium series at the moment. It was one of those series' where I didn't want to start the last book because I didn't want it to end. Such astonishing works with such an interesting and worthy exploratory subject at their core: men who hate women. His work explores violence towards women perpetrated by men, but more often condoned, ignored or belittled still further by other men. Although the work's genre is crime fiction, it tries to make a bigger impact than entertainment. I'm mortified to have learned he planned to have ten works all up, but that the series was cut short by his (not unsuspicious) death.

Q: Does a song come to mind with the book you are currently reading? If so what it is?
A: With my pile of books it would have to be a double compilation album! I'm going to say no. I've sat here contemplating each of the books in the pile and no songs come to mind.

Q: Are you participating in any summer reading challenges?
A: I wasn't. Well, partly because it's not summer. But then I thought why aren't I? And I went in search of one. I am now playing with Book'd Out on her Eclectic Reader Challenge. It's the reason I bought all those books way back there in question one. It requires reading a book from twelve different genres; a number of which I would not ordinarily go near like Romantic Suspense, New Adult, Memoir or Humour. It's an out of your comfort zone thing and I am quite excited. Just need to do some reading now. See ya ... curls up on couch and loses four hours ... (I wish).
